RESTORATION TODAY
SUNDAY 18TH DECEMBER 2016
BY PASTOR DR. G.O. OLUTOLA JP.

THEME: THE IMPORTANCE OF WATER BAPTISM.

Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life. Romans 6: 4.

Imagine if you were married and your spouse didn't want to go out in public with you or doesn't want to wear the wedding ring outside, only inside the house; you'd definitely wonder if the marriage actually meant anything to such a person. That tells us a bit about the importance of baptism.

Just like a ring makes your marriage known to the public, water baptism is the way to publicly say that you believe in the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus and you've put your trust in Him. But there is even more.

Paul wrote, Therefore we were buried with Him through baptism into death, that just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life. Now if we died with Christ, we believe that we shall also live with Him? (Romans 6: 4 - 8). What's this saying? It's saying that baptism isn?t just symbolic. Baptism is a way of taking part in the death of Jesus.

As you take part in the death of Jesus, you're dead to your old life, and start a new life out the other side, with Jesus. Whenever you're tempted to go back to your old ways, baptism is a constant reminder that you are a new creation.
